Sq'ewqéyl is a First Nation community situated in the heart of Chilliwack, British Columbia. We, the members of Skowkale, take pride in being part of the Ts’elxwéyeqw, one of the tribes of the Stó:lō – known as the People of the River. Our ancestors are among the original inhabitants of the Chilliwack River watershed, located in the Central Fraser Valley of southwestern British Columbia. In our language, Halq’eméylem, the name of our tribe, ‘Sq’ewqéyl’ translates to ‘Skowkale’ in English, which refrences to the large bend in the Chilliwack River, where our community lies now.
